Getting Started: Before You Record!

COVID-19 continues to change our lives but perhaps one of the unexpected outcomes has been the surge in people of all ages and backgrounds making and recording original music at home to share with family, friends, or even a larger audience.

While I typically engage with musicians of varying skills, I've come across more and more people asking some of the same basic questions. With this in mind, I’ve launched a new series of Getting Started videos this summer on my YouTube channel to support anyone who wants to record their music but may not even know where to begin.

The first video explains:

  1. What you need to get started

  2. Why multi-track recording should be used

  3. The difference between audio tracks and MIDI tracks

We all have to start somewhere and I would ask you to help your friends, family members, and fellow musicians take that next step forward, regardless of where we are on our musical journey.

For those just starting out, I hope the videos will help you gain a solid foundation and encourage you to ask even the simplest questions if it helps you move forward.

For those already well on their way, I'd ask you to please share this with anyone you know who might benefit.

There will always be someone who knows more than you but there are also plenty who could use your experience and guidance too.

Pay it forward by helping others reach their own musical goals. Now, more than ever, the world needs a good tune. Let's give 'em one.

Upcoming videos will be short but actionable tutorials that anyone can use to start recording with just their mobile device, their musical talent, and free software.

It's important to start with what you already have before investing more time & money. The basic concepts you learn now will help you scale your efforts as your musical goals change and your budget allows.

As always, if you find something of value here, please like, subscribe and share within your musical circles.

If you need help getting your current project to sound like you want it to, please reach out. Tell me about your music!
